Saab has received an order worth approximately SEK 1.2 billion from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for sensors and command-and-control systems for a ground-based air defence (GBAD) solution for the Swedish Army’s brigades.
Deliveries are planned between 2029 and 2030.
AdvertisementThe contract is significant both because of its value and because it expands Saab’s role in Sweden’s ongoing military modernisation. The systems will build on previous Saab deliveries to FMV and are intended to strengthen the army’s ability to detect and counter advanced aerial threats.
AdvertisementThe order includes Saab’s Giraffe AMB radar and its GBAD command-and-control system.
According to the company, the combination provides surveillance, target detection and command capabilities that help military units gain a faster understanding of the air situation and respond to emerging threats.
AdvertisementGround-based air defence has become a growing priority for European armed forces as countries seek to improve protection against aircraft, drones and other airborne threats.
The latest order adds to a series of investments by Sweden aimed at strengthening national defence capabilities following the country's Nato accession and broader defence build-up.
