Norway will present its new Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks on 30 April at Rena Camp, according to NRK.
The rollout marks a step in efforts to strengthen land forces in response to a more demanding security environment.
The Leopard 2A8, produced by German manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, is the latest iteration of the widely used Leopard platform.
AdvertisementNorway has procured 54 tanks worth NOK 23 billion.
It incorporates enhanced protection and upgraded targeting systems and is intended to replace older tanks in the Norwegian Army.
The procurement also aligns Norway with several European allies operating the same platform, supporting closer operational cooperation and more efficient shared logistics.
AdvertisementIndustrial opportunities
Large defence acquisitions typically include industrial cooperation agreements, creating potential roles for suppliers.
Nordic companies may benefit from integration into the Leopard supply chain across components, maintenance and subsystems.
AdvertisementSeveral Norwegian companies will contribute to the development of the tanks. The contract will generate significant value for Norway’s defence industry, the Army said in a press release.
The Armed Forces believe the arrangement will strengthen Norway’s ability to maintain and repair the tanks independently.
