The Svenskt Krut competence centre was inaugurated at KTH on 1 September. The initiative will run from 2026 to 2031 and is financed with SEK 100m from the Swedish Armed Forces through the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, FMV.
The background is Sweden’s dependence on foreign suppliers of nitrocellulose, propellants and other critical inputs for the defence industry. The centre is intended to build the research and expertise required for Sweden to eventually establish domestic production.
