Latvia drops Swedish system for Czech howitzers

Latvia and Sweden signed a letter of intent in June 2025 for the potential acquisition of 18 Archer systems

Latvia has chosen to acquire Morana 155 mm self-propelled howitzers from Czech manufacturer Excalibur Army instead of Sweden’s Archer system, according to Defense News.

The Latvian government approved the decision after comparing the offers on price, delivery times, operational capabilities and the involvement of Latvia’s defence industry.
