Norway has received its first M3N amphibious bridge and ferry vehicle from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS), less than a year after signing a NOK 1.2 billion contract with the manufacturer.

The vehicle was handed over at the company’s facility in Kaiserslautern, Germany, on 4 November. Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to continue until 2028, according to Norwegian defence procurement agency Forsvarsmateriell.

The wheeled vehicle can enter the water and connect with others to form a floating bridge or ferry, allowing tanks and other heavy military equipment to cross rivers and fjords.

Norway was able to enter Sweden’s production programme through cooperation with Swedish procurement agency FMV, helping shorten the delivery timeline, Norwegian publication Forsvarets forum reports. The Norwegian configuration is based on the Swedish version.

- This is the fastest delivery of this complex military capability to a nation ever, Tomas Beck, head of land and joint capabilities at Forsvarsmateriell, said, according to the agency’s announcement.

Sweden and Denmark have also ordered the M3, allowing the Nordic countries to use compatible equipment in joint operations. Norway signed its contract in November 2025.
