Saab secures SEK 8.7bn contract for German Navy frigates

Saab has signed a contract with German naval defence company Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) to deliver and integrate combat systems, composite structures and sensors for four new MEKO A-200 DEU class frigates for the German Navy. 

The order is valued at approximately SEK 8.7 billion, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032.

These deliveries will significantly enhance the Navy's anti-air-, anti-submarine- and anti-surface warfare capabilities, says Micael Johansson, CEO and President of Saab, in a press release.

The frigates will be built in Germany with TKMS serving as the prime contractor. The agreement also includes an option covering the integration and equipping of additional frigates.

The order includes Saab's composite superstructures, the 9LV Combat System with its Fire Control System and Combat Management System, the Sea Giraffe 4A Fixed Face long-range surveillance radar, the Sea Giraffe 1X lightweight multi-mission surveillance radar and passive sensors.

According to Saab, the systems supplied under the contract are intended to enhance the German Navy's capabilities in anti-air, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare.
