Kongsberg's low-cost missile push weighs on profits
Efforts to establish itself in the market for affordable, mass-produced missiles are weighing on profitability, even as Kongsberg's newly acquired Zone 5 secures fresh orders
Kongsberg's Missiles & Aerostructures division recorded revenue growth of 87 percent in the third quarter, but its operating margin fell from 16.5 to 11.6 percent, according to its financial report published Thursday.
Kongsberg attributes the decline primarily to Zone 5 Technologies, the American missile manufacturer it acquired in June and is now scaling up for mass production.
