The German Armed Forces now have direct access to several Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites through a joint venture between Finnish space company Iceye and German defence group Rheinmetall.
The capability is being developed under the SPOCK 1 programme and is intended primarily to protect the German brigade deployed in Lithuania and monitor NATO’s eastern flank, according to a press release from Rheinmetall Iceye Space Solutions.
