Lockheed Martin and the Danish Technological Institute have entered into a partnership to establish a Danish centre of excellence for advanced materials characterisation that will improve the operational reliability and service life of military aircraft.
The centre of excellence, the Residual Stress Center of Excellence, is being established as part of the offset agreement between Denmark and the United States in connection with the acquisition of the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. The purpose is to develop new methods for precise measurement of residual stresses in aircraft components so that maintenance can increasingly be based on the actual condition of the aircraft rather than fixed service intervals.
