Saab lands GlobalEye order worth over SEK 10bn

Saab has received an order worth SEK 10.1 billion for two GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft from an undisclosed customer in the Middle East.

Both aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2030.

- This order underscores our commitment to providing customers with mission-proven, multi-domain AEW&C capability. The increasing international interest in GlobalEye reflects its effectiveness and reliability in modern air defence operations, said Saab CEO Micael Johansson.

Saab said it would not disclose further information about the customer or the contract due to national security considerations.

GlobalEye combines active and passive sensors to detect and identify objects in the air, at sea and over land. The aircraft provides real-time information to military units and is designed to support the early detection of threats.

The order adds confirmed business to a programme attracting growing international interest. Canada selected Saab as its preferred supplier for a future AEW&C system in May, while NATO announced in July that it would begin negotiations with Saab over the acquisition of up to ten GlobalEye aircraft. 

Neither process had resulted in a contract when Saab published its second-quarter report.

Saab is expanding its GlobalEye production capacity to meet the expected demand. Sales in its Surveillance business area rose by 47 per cent year-on-year to SEK 7.4 billion in the second quarter, while the division’s order backlog stood at SEK 64.9 billion at the end of June, before the latest order.
