Patria and Etteplan deepen vehicle engineering partnership

Finnish defence company Patria and engineering specialist Etteplan are deepening their long-standing collaboration.

The companies are establishing a new defence-focused competence centre aimed at supporting growing demand for Patria's armoured vehicle programmes.

- Patria has invested in growing its own production and has developed its operating model based on technology transfer, said Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria's Protected Mobility business area. 

- We need a reliable, international engineering partner that can scale its expertise quickly in line with growing demand. Etteplan understands the requirements of armoured vehicle engineering, and deepening the collaboration strengthens our ability to respond to our customers' needs.

Under a newly signed Letter of Intent, Etteplan will create a Defence Competence Centre led from Finland to provide vehicle engineering, variant development and technical documentation services for Patria's Protected Mobility business area.

The move comes as demand for Patria's armoured vehicles continues to increase, prompting the company to expand both its production capacity and engineering resources. The new centre is intended to provide scalable engineering support while strengthening Patria's delivery capability, Patria said in a statement.

According to the companies, the competence centre will combine Etteplan's expertise in vehicle and special vehicle engineering with AI-enabled service solutions designed to streamline engineering and documentation processes.

Etteplan chief executive Juha Näkki said the company's experience in vehicle engineering positions it to provide additional capacity and expertise as Patria expands its programmes.

- We have worked with Patria for a long time, and it is great to deepen this partnership and bring additional engineering capacity and expertise through our new competence centre, he said.
