Denmark's J.A. Group has appointed former SH Defence chief executive René Bertelsen to lead its newly rebranded subsidiary, J.A. Solutions, in a move that signals a sharper focus on defence markets and containerised mission systems.

The appointment follows the group’s acquisition of LJ Industries in Nyborg, Denmark.

The shift points to a growing emphasis on modular, container-based solutions - an area where SH Defence has been active - and suggests continuity in approach under the new leadership.

Containerised systems integrate equipment into standard units that can be deployed across vessels and platforms, a concept gaining traction across naval and wider defence applications.

- We are embarking on a journey to transform the business from producing equipment for our own fleet to becoming an international, product-driven company with integrated services, owner Kim Alfastsen said in a press release.

Experienced CEO

Bertelsen brings more than 30 years of industry experience, most recently as chief executive of SH Defence, a Danish supplier of naval handling and mission systems. He has also held senior roles at Wärtsilä and SH Group.

His background in containerised solutions is expected to inform J.A. Solutions’ direction as the company seeks to position itself in a growing market for modular and dual-use systems.

- This is an exciting new challenge, and I look forward to leading the company in a new direction within a growing market, Bertelsen said in a press release.

J.A. Solutions will focus on developing containerised systems in collaboration with OEMs, integrating technologies such as drones, sensors and mine countermeasure (MCM) equipment into deployable units.

The company operates production facilities in Nyborg and plans to present its first standardised solutions at DALO Industry Days in Herning in August.
