Saab folds Kockums and combat systems into single Naval division

Saab is consolidating its naval activities into a single business area, bringing together shipbuilding and combat systems under one organisational structure.

The new unit, to be named Naval, will combine business area Kockums with the majority of the Naval Combat Systems unit, which currently sits within business area Surveillance, the company said in a press release.

The reorganisation takes effect on 1 April 2026.

Micael Johansson, President and Chief Executive of Saab, said the move is intended to strengthen customer value and market position through improved efficiency and faster innovation.

Mats Wicksell, currently head of business area Kockums, will lead the new Naval business area.

Saab’s naval operations are currently distributed across several organisational units. Kockums develops and produces surface vessels, submarines and autonomous underwater vehicles. 

Naval Combat Systems develops and produces combat management systems, fire control systems and secure communications solutions, and provides systems integration. The new structure brings these activities together within a single reporting line.

To support year-on-year comparisons, Saab will publish restated historical financial information ahead of its January to June 2026 interim report. The restatement will not affect the group’s previously reported total revenue or results.
