The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded a contract for the procurement of anti-aircraft guns to the German defence contractor Rheinmetall.
The contract, published in the Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) database, is valued at €62.7m.
AdvertisementDue to an error, the contract sum was listed in Swedish kronor. In an email to Defence Nordic, FMV confirmed that the correct amount is in euros, corresponding to approximately SEK 654m.
AdvertisementUnder the contract, FMV will procure anti-aircraft guns for its fast assault craft, the Combat Boat 90 (CB90). The CB90 is a high-speed, highly manoeuvrable assault craft used by Sweden’s amphibious units.
AdvertisementThe vessels are built for the Swedish Navy and are the result of close cooperation between Saab’s Dockstavarvet shipyard and FMV.
The boats have a shallow draught, enabling them to deploy up to 20 troops along shorelines. Their top speed exceeds 40 knots, according to Saab.
AdvertisementAccording to the tender documents, the contract also includes framework agreements covering ammunition, maintenance and spare parts for the anti-aircraft guns.
The other bidders in the competition were Rafael and MSI Defence Systems.
